Title: Satorare-Tribute to a Sad Genius (aka: Transparent) (2001)
Starring: Masanobu Ando, Kyoka Suzuki, Rina Uchiyama

Director: Katsuyuki Motohiro
Studio: Pop & In Entertainment
Rating: R
Genre: Drama

Synopsis:
Following up on the wild box-office success of his Odoru Daisosasen: The Movie, Katsuyuki Motohiro directs this offbeat drama about one very unusual lad. Born with both an I.Q. of 195 and a freakish and uncontrollable ability to project his innermost thoughts to everyone in the vicinity, Kenichi Satomi (Masanobu Ando) is only one of seven members of a very small circle called "the satorare" -- the understood. The Japanese government garners for these gifted individuals the sort of luxurious and isolated lives usually reserved for royalty. Though he graduated from medical school with the highest board score ever recorded, Satomi lives cocooned and away from normal interaction. One day, a psychiatrist named Yoko Komatsu (Kyoka Suzuki) is assigned to examine this rare example of humanity. Yoko quickly learns that not only is Satomi very lonely, but he is in love with her. On her end, she longs to return the love, struggling to find a meaningful -- and private -- means of doing so.

Title(s) AKA: Samaria (Samaritan Girl)
Film Director(s): Kim Gi-Deok (Kim Ki-Duk)

Released: 2004 [Korea]
Genre: Drama
Sub-Genre: Erotica

Overview:
With a background in philosophy and art, added a touch of catholic upbringing, Kim Ki-Duk has become both one of the most productive and original directors to come out of South Korea, having made ten films over the last eight years. While gaining more and more critical appeal and understanding, he is still largely unappreciated by the general audience, who even in Korea turn the back to his film. Perhaps if he made "nicer" films, he would become more accepted and lesser hated, but that is not what Kim wants. He is not making films to satisfy an audience: "I don't try to entice viewers to watch, understand, or even like my films." To Kim, trying to please an audience is compromising ones thought, to sell out.

Jae-Young is prostituting herself, being managed by her best friend, Yeo-Ji, in order for them to save up money to visit Europe. Jea-Young is so in love with being a prostitute, that she adapts the name Vasumitra, after a prostitute who turned men into devoted Buddhist by sleeping with them. When surprised by the police, Jea-Young jumps out of a window, crushing her skull. Having been rushed to the hospital by Yeo-Ji, the doctors do not expect her to survive the day, thus Jea-Young asks Yeo-Ji to get one of her customers, whom she is in love with. Yeo-Ji gets him, at a price, but they return to late: Jea-Young is dead.

So begins Kim Ki-Duk latest film "Samaria". Awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for best direction, and being one of the films in the race for Best Film, "Samaria" is allegory questioning both moral and sin. Divided into three chapters: "Vasumitra" deals with the friendship between Jae-Young and Yeo-Ji, "Samaria" deals with Yeo-Ji's reaction to the death of her best friend and the final chapter, "Sonata", concludes.

Many have been offended by the presentation of teen prostitution, but one only needs to open the newspaper to realize, that Kim actually has approached the subject with both taste and tact. In an interview, Kim pointed out: "There are over 600,000 teenage prostitutes in South Korea. This means, that over 600,000 fathers have sex with girls who are someone's daughter."

i like these type of films where the ending seems like the ending when actually it doesnt... u know it shows a logical ending but ppl will leave the theatre asking questions about the ending... u know like what u see is not really what u see... the movie was made as if to make you believe that what is supposed to be happening... which to me is fair enough, but it starts to raise doubts when they start showing some cut scenes... then u think maybe what the "bad" guy says is actually true and hes not lying...

the movie may say that teddy raped n murder lenny's wife alright... but if u check out the movie's official site... u will notice something very very from what it turns out in the movie... if u are smart u will know there is something wrong with lenny... :D

24 hours in L.A.; it's raining cats and dogs. Two parallel and intercut stories dramatize a man about to die: both men are estranged from a grown child, both want to make contact, and neither child wants anything to do with dad. Earl Partridge's son is a charismatic misogynist; Jimmy Gator's daughter is a cokehead and waif. A mild and caring nurse intercedes for Earl, reaching the son; a prayerful and upright beat cop meets the daughter, is attracted to her, and leads her toward a new calm. Meanwhile, guilt consumes Earl's young wife, while two whiz kids, one grown and a loser and the other young and pressured, face their situations. The weather, too, is quirky.

Title: JAM Films
Country : Japan
Year: 2002
Genre: Action / Science Fiction / Comedy / Drama

Producer: Shinya Kawai
Director: George Ida, Shunji Iwai, Ryuhei Kitamura, Rokuro Mochizuk, Tetsuo Shinohara, Yukihoko Tsutsumi, Isao Yukisada

Cast: Ryoko Hirosue, Kazuki Kitamura, Akaji Maro, Takao Osawa, Ryoko Shinohara, Satoshi Tsumabuki, Tomomi Tsunoda, Kanae Uotani, Masayoshi Yamazaki, Takami Yoshimoto

Story: JAM FILMS is a collection of seven unique, short films from Japan.

THE MESSENGER
Written and Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura
Ryuhei Kitamura starts us off with THE MESSENGER, a very stylish and stirring story about an underworld boss who is visited by a mysterious woman known as The Messenger. Her supposed myth is that she is a voodoo assassin that curses men to death, but not all is what it seems as she uncovers a fateful secret about the life this particular boss lives. THE MESSENGER concentrates on atmosphere and dialogue and delivers a fantastic climax which includes the most unusual and coolest gun battle ever.

KENDAMA
Directed by Tetuso Shinohara
Fujikara receives a kendama as a present from his boss after winning the company sumo tournament. At first glance, the kendama means nothing to him and hands it off to fellow worker, Akagi, apathetically. But when Fujiwara asks for it back, Akagi runs off and begins an afternoon chase that sends the kendama in the hands of another.... KENDAMA is very whacky indeed, a cute switcheroo adventure that has a very sweet message about relationship and love.

COLD SLEEP
Written and Directed by George Ida
“Time to wake up” is heard in unison with the beating of a heart. The cold sleep machine opens and a confused man wakes up in a children’s school house. As he stumbles his way through, blanket wrapped around him, he discovers that he is not alone, but with full grown adults dressed in childish costumes shooting at him with toy ray guns! COLD SLEEP, while silly at first, comes into rational fruition as the story unfolds flamboyantly and strangely in this humorous science fiction short.

PANDRA – HONG KONG LEG
Written and directed by Rokuro Mochizuki
A woman scratches her toes relentlessly in the hot shower, feeling shame at the same time. It is this shame that leads her to a strange man that claims he will cure her of her secret itch. When the treatment comes in the form of a silent man in a box licking her toes, she becomes obsessed with who he is. Perhaps the strangest of the JAM FILMS shorts, Mochizuki does a fascinating job providing mood and tone for this almost Lynchian-like tale.

HIJIKI
Written and directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi
Hijiki is a type of dried, black seaweed that is used in soups and other dishes. But what does it have to do with a criminal holding up a family of three? As HIJIKI begins, a disclaimer from the director appears to warn people of its unhappy ending. Yet, the films attitude is very surreal and almost comes off as a dark comedy at times. Though, it is very abundant in character development as they each preach about their lost dreams and ambitions and hope for a new life.

JUSTICE
Written and directed by Isao Yukisada
An English speaking teacher is instructing his Japanese class about the Potsdam Declaration. As he paces around the classroom reciting the text off of his book, a few of the students are preoccupied by other things. One in particular stares out of the window and begins counting the snapping of the girl’s gym tights during a track practice. Entertainingly edited and paced, Yukisada’s use of a boy’s appreciation for jiggling thighs and colorful tights as the main metaphor in his story is quite interesting indeed.

ARITA
Written and directed by Shunji Iwai
ARITA is a short film told in pictures and in small moments. It is about a girl whose first friend is a small drawing named Arita, a cute nosed endearment she found everywhere. From her notebooks to her illustrations and school supplies, Arita appeared silently and still. Growing up with such a friend would raise questions and as she became older, she attempted to answer them. Iwai, one of Japan’s most exciting directors, tells a beautiful and dream-like story through the precious eyes of Ryoko Hirosue. The heavenly tint of the picture and the serene piano playing makes ARITA easily an audience favorite.

IMO:
those who cannot stand movies that go on for too long will like this one, 7 short films enough to thrill... its kind of hard for ppl to make short films and get the audience's attention, so big credit to the makers... out of the 7, i like kendama, cold sleep, hong kong leg, justice, arita...

kendama is easy to understand and quite funny to see ppl fighting over a small toy... cold sleep is like playing a joke on humans for being too smart... hong kong leg really makes me wanna lick women's toes... justice is wat every boy likes and gers should see it to know wat goes on in the mind of a normal male... arita is typical shunji iwai film, sweet and nice, the sweet factor is upped a couple of notches when the lead is ryoko...

as usual i hate kitamura's the messenger for its futuristic themes... he thinks its cool but i think its not... although i have to admit the messenger is much much better than his versus, alive or sky high... but not good enough for azumi... hijiki is a weird sad story which is normal la, not very intriguing...

Title(s) AKA: Comrade (Double Agent)
Film Director(s): Kim Hyeon-Jeong
Released: 2003 [Korea]
Genre: Drama
Sub-Genre: Thriller

Overview:
The film--titled "Ijung Kanchop" (Double Agent) in Korean--marks the return of Han Suk-kyu, the star of "Shiri" who, at the height of his popularity, decided to take a three-year hiatus from films. At first glance, Han might seem to be searching to recapture the commercial success of the 1999 spy thriller, but his new role is light years apart from the South Korean agent in the previous film.

In "Comrade," Han plays Lim Byong-ho, a ranking North Korean agent working at the embassy in East Germany, who defects by narrowly escaping and making his way through the Berlin Wall's Checkpoint Charlie in 1980. Chased by North Korean officials and snipers, Lim is met on the other side of the wall by South Korean officials, who carry him away to safety.

Or so it seems, until they arrive in South Korea and Lim is taken to the Central Intelligence Agency headquarters in Seoul's Namsan Mountain, a place known for brutal "interrogations" during the 1970s and '80s. Despite Lim's repeated pleas that he defected to "find freedom," the Korean CIA put him through a horrifying series of torture methods involving live electric wires and water.

Finally convinced that Lim is actually telling the truth, the agency decides to put him to work for the CIA, at first training operatives on North Korean tactics, and later, becoming entering the heart of the agency as a special information analyst.

But black and white quickly returns to gray. Lim turns out to be a North Korean spy after all, waiting to receive his orders from another agent, Yun Su-mi (Go So-young) a disc jockey at a classical radio station. Arranging an accidental meeting in a church, Yun and Lim get romantically involved as a cover for their espionage, but in their isolation this leads to actual feelings for each other.

With "Dead Or Alive" Takashi Miike created one of the most extreme and visually stunning films of his career. Now, with "Dead Or Alive 2", he pushes the boundaries further than ever before.

When Otamoko is hired to assassinate a ruthless gangster, he is surprised to find a mysterious gunman make the hit before he gets the chance to pull the trigger. Deciding to take the money for the job he failed to complete, Otamoko flees the city, with Japanese yakuza and the Chinese triads hot on his trail.

Hiding out on the island where he grew up, he runs into the man who killed his target: an old friend named Sawada. Together they plan to use their shooting skills to rid the Earth of evil and set out to hit the gang bosses and drug dealers who make the world a worse place.

This incredible film resurrects the central characters from "Dead Or Alive" and propels them into a vortex of sureal style and hard-hitting violence that will bend your mind and rock your senses.

IMO:
aiya, its not so much fun when both of them fight together and not against each other... like all miike films, this oso has some weird scenes like they growing angel wings on their backs... but the first dead or alive has much more weirder and stranger sights, and its so much fun too...
